It really didn’t come as a shock to see Stuart Gray sacked as the Sheffield Wednesday manager. Stuart is a great coach but a poor manager and the crowds dropping at Hillsborough last season, should have been a warning. In the last week I suggested Gray had to go sooner rather than later, if Wednesday were to progress into the Premier division in two seasons.
I don’t believe that Megson should have ever been sacked, he twice got West Bromwich Albion promoted into the Premier division playing exciting attacking football and wouldn’t be surprised to see him back at Hillsborough. Megson has Sheffield Wednesday written all through him.
Di Canio could be a surprise choice and the best player I ever saw at Hillsborough, Sunderland was a step too far for him. I was willing to pay the match admission to watch him alone and had a season ticket at the time.
At the moment though Mark Warburton who got Brentwood promoted looks like the most likely new manager at Hillsborough, but can he take the pressure of the SW6 Cauldron.
My number one choice for Wednesday manager is Nigel Pearson and was disappointed that Ron Atkinson didn’t become director of football, with Nigel Pearson as his number 2. Could he be prised away from Leicester City.
However Dejphon Chansiri could surprise us with a totally unknown manager from abroad.
Expect the appointment to be sooner, rather than later, otherwise Stuart Gray wouldn’t have been sacked.
All the best
