Mill stones Derbyshire Peak district Photograph

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

You will find abandoned Mill stones all over the Derbyshire peak district, they were used long ago for milling flour, but more recently in the industrial revolution for making knifes.  There were many Little Mesters making knifes along the rivers in Sheffield, using water wheels when the industrial revolution started.   The Millstones were made in the Derbyshire peaks from the stone that is in abundance and exported else where.
