St Ledger originates from Firbeck.

Firbeck is only a 30 minute or so walk across the fields for me from Doncaster.  I took a picture of the village sign and noticed horse racing on it.  Digging a bit further I found out that the St Ledger was first run at Firbeck but wasn’t called that.   The race was named after Anthony St Ledger who owned Parkhill house at Firbeck a country estate of 500 acres.  Parkhill house no longer exists, other than the gatehouse, which you will find by the telephone box.

I am told that.  Every sporting man and Turfite has heard of the Park Hill Stakes.

All the best
