Lordens hill rd improvements and resurfacing Dinnington Rotherham Metropolitan borough council

The long-awaited Lordens hill road improvements are going to start on the 30th July 2018.   This will carry on for four weeks between 9:30am and 3:30pm, when the road will be closed. Why Rotherham council have been carrying out repairs of side streets before this important main road is beyond me.  If you had money … Continue reading Lordens hill rd improvements and resurfacing Dinnington Rotherham Metropolitan borough council

Bank of England City of London Old lady of Threadneedle st

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

I am embarrassed to say I didn’t realise this was the Bank of England and I first worked in the City of London in 1985.  This is right outside Bank tube station.  It is right by the deceased Headquarters of Midland Banks head office on Poultry and Princes st.  The Bank of England was known as the “Old lady of Threadneedle st”.

St Andrew Undershaft versus the Gherkin St Mary Axe

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

St Andrew Undershaft survived both the fire of London and the Blitz.  Old blend in rather well with new London.  The Gherkin should have been called Faberge egg.

Wildflower land

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

These are wildflowers are down the side of my property.  They would have been even better if Rotherham council hadn’t cut them back in May just as they were coming into bloom.  These beautiful blue and red flowers attract lots of bees and butterflies.

Londinium Roman London Wall

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

There are scatterings of the original wall of Londinium, pretty much the area of the City of London, which is now the financial district.  I found this walking from the Tower of London to the City.   Much of the Roman wall was rebuilt for the earlier city of London, but removed when no longer required as a defence.

BBC broadcasting house.

It’s really surprising what buildings you come across when walking through London.  At the time I was walking from BT tower towards Regents Park.  During the 2nd world war the BBC was the bastion of truth and all over Europe people listened to it, because they got a balanced view.  The BBC since the 1980’s had become so politicised and full of common purpose.   They openly advertise for non-whites to fill roles, even though this is racist and discriminatory.   All through the EU referendum, they were biased toward remaining and even now look for every negative angle to pull down Brexit.  To cap it all we have to pay their licence fee to watch TV, even though we may not watch their organisation.  It is time the BBC was privatised and stood on its own two feet.

Old versus new City of London

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

Many new buildings are springing up in the city of London behind the old city.  I am told that many of these buildings are for insurance services.   I had quite a chat with one of the builders, who said that the tallest building in London was going to be built here, he said it would eclipse the Shard in usable space.

I am going to get this picture blown up and put on my living room wall.

Bank tube station London

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

As a 21 year old I used to travel to London to work at Midland bank head office locations.  It was quite a surreal experience stepping out of the Bank tube station and seeing the Bank of England and other major institutions in the City of London.  Sadly HSBC shut down Midland banks old Head office on Poultry and Princes st a number of years ago.

Dinnington Community Garden Allotment Lordens hill rd Victoria st Dinnington.

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

These are some better pictures of the community allotment.  There are a number of raised beds and I can now see lots of plant pots that contain something.   If you know more about what is going off in the allotment and how people can get involved, please give me a shout?  Hopefully, this will start to regenerate the area and reduce litter and crime.

Free speech Tommy Robinson Speakers corner Hyde Park London.

Photography Anston, Dinnington, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and UK

I didn’t realise that speakers corner was on the Marble Arch end of Hyde Park.  You can see people congregating here, but it seemed nothing more than a rabble.  You may wish to familiarise yourself with Free speech and Tommy Robinson, as you could be next.

I have some amazing pictures to add of London, that I took yesterday, the weather was exceptional.
